Ilkka Hammo's first composition concert ”Spaces” brings the delicate and sonorous sounds of flute, guitar and harpsichord to the magnificent and resonant lobby of the Pirkanmaa Music Institute. The name of the concert comes from the program’s final work Space Reflections, which is now being heard for the first time in front of an audience. Originally composed for the Organo Hall of the Musiikkitalo (Helsinki), the work spreads ensemble of four musicians around the playing space. Local color is added to the concert with Fantasia, commissioned by the Pirkanmaa Cultural Foundation, when Jouko Laivuori masters this virtuoso number with the Cultural Foundation's unique Bruce Kennedy harpsichord. This is the first public concert performance of the work. The actual premiere of the concert is Rainy Day Elegy, which was composed in the same working process than And when it rains… In contrast to the new works, Contrasts from 2007 recalls the beginnings and starting points of Hammo's career as a composer.
